History
Al Perkins started working with leather at an early age. He began training to make western saddles as a teenager and eventually joined his father as co-owner in a full service leather store. When his father retired they closed the shop and Al pursued a different career path. Al never lost his interest in leather work. When he retired from the business world he dusted off his tools, completed an English saddle making course taught by a Master Saddler from England, and set up shop. He is doing business again as Perkins Leather Shop in a renovated farm house a few miles north of the Virginia Horse Center. Al does custom leather work and repair for both horse and rider.
